CPAC 2003

General Election 2001
The scene at Scottish Conservative Central Office, at 4.30am on the night of the tragic 2001 UK General Election. After attending the Edinburgh count, Scottish Conservative Leader David McLetchie MSP and Campaign Leader Rt Hon Malcolm Rifkind, seated, join the Deputy-Chairman Bill Walker and senior aides to watch in a deflated yet defiant mood as UK Leader William Hague MP concedes to Tony Blair. Rifkind counselled the Tory Students in the room that "the facts of life are conservative" and our time would come, next time for sure.
